Sam Seawright waves the checkers as the Clarksville Speedway era ends.
What won the race: Second-starting Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., overcame a rash of caution flags and restarts in leading all 50 laps of Saturday's Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series season finale, the final race at Clarksville Speedway's quarter-mile red clay oval. Seawright beat Putnam by 1.222 seconds for the $10,000 payday, his first career Southern Thunder victory and ninth overall feature win of the season.
Quotable: “That’s really sad man. That’s the main reason I come to this race was cause it’s the last one. To win the last race they’re ever gonna have here, that’s awesome,” Seawright said. “I feel bad for all the fans close by here to lose a home track like that, but we sure had a lot of fun.”
Key notes: Seawright scored his first feature win since Aug. 2's Deep Fried 75 at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn., worth $15,000 in Hunt the Front Series action. ... Six of Seawright's nine feature wins this season have come at Duck River (four) and Alabama's Talladega Short Track (two). ... Fifth-starting Josh Putnam prevailed to finish second after a back-and-forth battle with Cory Hedgecock. ... Hedgecock, who entered seeking the fifth win in his last six series starts, settled for third. ... Jadon Frame and Jason Riggs each advanced eight positions, completing the top-five finishers. ... Jack Franklin overcame a lap-13 multicar melee to finish ninth; the race's fifth yellow flag flew when ninth-running Jacob Trice spun in turn one, collecting Franklin, Pierce McCarter and Levi Ashby. Trice and McCarter were eliminated while Ashby continued until retiring under a lap-28 debris caution. ... The race was slowed by seven other yellows, first when Dillard Hatchett slowed from third on lap three. ... Shannon Ardry slowed to a stop on the eighth lap before calling it a night. ... Jensen Ford spun on the ensuing restart attempt, eliminating Parker Perry; Ford continued until retiring under the lap-28 debris caution. ... Brody Yarbrough spun in turn four on lap 10, triggering the fourth slowdown; he continued to finish 14th aboard a No. 60 entry acquired from Dan Ebert. ... Debris in turn four drew the sixth caution before Daniel Adam slowed from fourth a couple laps later, ending his night. ... Contact from Putnam sent Robert Ardry spinning out of turn four on lap 41 for the eighth and final stoppage. ... New track ownership is slated to close Clarksville Speedway after more than 60 years of history. ... The 50-lap final race lasted 42 minutes with 11 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Ruben Mayfield of Lenoir City, Tenn., started 22nd and finished ninth.
