What won the race: Second-starting Sawyer Crigler of Alton, Mo., commanded all 30 laps for a convincing $6,000 victory in Saturday's Turkey Bowl XIX at Springfield Raceway. Crigler beat Shane DeMey by 1.082 seconds for the $6,000 payday, his first career special event victory and 10th overall feature win of the season.
Quotable: “This is, by far, the biggest win of my career. I’ve won one of these in a modified, but it was a few years back and man, this just means the world to me. I don’t know what to say,” Crigler said. “That modified (win) meant a lot because it was my first one, but this one is a little bit more prestigious. My dad’s got three of them, now I got two, I need one more to catch him.”
Key notes: Sawyer Crigler nabbed his third Springfield victory of the season, adding to 4 State Late Model Series wins there on May 10 and Oct. 4, worth more than $4,500. ... It's his second career Turkey Bowl triumph after topping 2021's modified portion. ... Polesitter Shane DeMey reclaimed the runner-up spot after Myles Moos hopped the turn-one cushion at the start of the 28th lap; Moos slid to fourth after Terry Phillips was also able to get by. ... Hometown racer, Phillips, overcame contact with Tony Jackson Jr. as they battled for seventh on lap 19, the resulting contact sent Jackson spinning and triggered the race's only caution; Jackson pitted and continued to finish 15th. ... Reigning event winner Dillon McCowan started and finished fifth. ... Scott Crigler, the race winner's father, climbed eight spots for an eighth-place finish. ... Fourth-running Eli Ross pitted under the lap-19 caution and could only rebound to 14th at the checkers. ... The race lasted 11 minutes with 16 starters completing 30 laps.
On the move: Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., started 12th and finished third.
