Casey Roberts collected $7,500 in the Carolina Clash finale.
What won the race: Taking advantage as the leaders tangled entering the opening turn, third-starting Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., led all 40 laps unchallenged in capturing Sunday's Charlie Mize Memorial at Lavonia Speedway. Roberts beat Devon Morgan by 1.828 seconds for the $5,000 payday, his third career Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series victory and fourth feature win of the season.
Quotable: “I hate to see (Tucker Anderson and Christian Thomas) have bad luck there on the front row, but we’ll take it,” Roberts said. “The car was pretty good. Once you got there in clean air and just hit your marks, the car was fairly well. You never know what could happen with Tucker and them guys ... it would’ve been fun to race it out with them.”
Key notes: Roberts added to his 2025 victories in Feb. 7's Winter Freeze prelim at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., May 23's Schaeffer's Spring Nationals stop at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Ga., and Nov. 9's unsanctioned Limiteds score at his hometown Toccoa Raceway. ... It was his first Carolina Clash victory since July 28, 2017, at Lavonia, an event co-sanctioned with the Ultimate Southeast Series. His first career Clash win came on Oct. 18, 2014, at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C. ... Morgan finished second after a back-and-forth battle with Anthony Sanders. ... Tucker Anderson overcame contact in the race's opening turn and passed Sanders for third on a lap-37 restart, relegating Sanders to fourth in the final rundown. ... The first caution flew when polesitter Anderson pushed high entering turn one on the opening circuit and made contact with Christian Thomas, sending Thomas spinning and flattening Anderson's right-rear tire. ... Both drivers tagged the rear, though Thomas suffered significant left-front damage and could only rebound to ninth. ... Donovan Jackson edged Dalton Peavy by six points for Rookie of the Year honors; Peavy gained four spots for an eighth-place finish. ... Ben Watkins drew the race's fourth and final caution when he spun in turn four after contact while battling Sanders for third, but he went on to finish 10th and clinch his third career Clash title (2015, '23). ... The 40-lapper lasted just shy of 22 minutes with 10 starters completing the distance and 13 running at the checkers. ... The event honored Charlie Mize, a former track promoter and announcer who died on May 18, 2008, at the age of 80. He is the grandfather of five-time Fastrak Southeast Series champion David Smith. ...
On the move: Matt Long of Concord, N.C., started 10th and finished sixth.
