What won the race: Polesitter Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., led all 40 laps in dominating fashion to win Wednesday's World of Outlaws Late Model Series-sanctioned Rick Briggs Memorial at Stateline Speedway. Wilson beat Zack Mitchell by 1.011 seconds for the $15,000 paycheck, his first career World of Outlaws victory in snapping Bobby Pierce's six-race series winning streak.
Quotable: "This is awesome. We’ve had a good car all year and we’ve had some ups and downs, we’ve had our teeth kicked in when we’ve been good," Wilson said. "This is just awesome to finally get one done. I can’t thank (car owners) Augie (Burtram) and Shawn (Martin) enough for giving me the opportunity and really putting this deal together for all of us."
Key notes: Wilson notched his first full-field feature victory since last Aug. 2's Hall of Fame Classic at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway on the Northern Allstars Late Model Series. ... He became the 105th different winner in WoO history. ... Zack Mitchell, making his debut aboard G.R. Smith's No. 22*, ran second all the way. ... Nick Hoffman, winner of the last WoO visit to Stateline on May 23, 2023, was one a few drivers to try the high line and passed Dave Hess Jr. for third on lap 26. ... Hess, slated to start second before being docked a starting row for jumping the original start, was fourth. ... Points leader Bobby Pierce, who was chasing his seventh straight WoO victory, worked the high line to fourth by lap 19 before slipping to fifth. ... The event honored Rick Briggs, the father of longtime competitor and current team co-owner Boom Briggs, who drove a No. 95 paying tribute to his late father (he was swept up in a lap-25 crash). ... The lap-25 melee was by far the biggest incident of the night when 15th-running Chub Frank spun entering turn one, collecting Briggs, Logan Zarin and David Parker and requiring a 10-minute red flag for cleanup. ... The original start attempt was called back for Tristan Chamberlain detouring through the infield; Tim McCreadie also received front-end damage and restarted on the tail. ... A debris caution flew on the 23rd lap. ... The 40-lapper lasted 26 minutes and concluded just after midnight with 21 starters completing the distance. ... A power outage in the tower delayed the start of the program.
On the move: Jon Lee of Summerville, Pa., started 21st and finished 13th.
