What won the race: Pole-starting Colton Horner of Katy, Texas, cruised to a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's Southern Texas Late Model Series event at Devil's Bowl Speedway. Horner collected $1,000 for his first series victory while outrunning Cody Leonard, who improved 12 positions in finishing second.
Key notes: Eleven of 14 starters were running at the finish. ... Joseph Kasper scratched from the main event. ... K.C. Fielding drove Eddy Hardage's car to a seventh-place finish after starting on the tail. ... The tour made its second visit to Devil's Bowl, a track that dropped its weekly Late Model division after the 2014 season. ... Former tour champion G.W. Egbert IV is back in tour competition for the first time this weekend since a March racing accident in his modified that left him with serious facial injuries (a concrete chunk struck his helmet). ... After rain scrapped the tour's first three events, the series is gearing up for a busy August with a pair of two-race weekends.
On the move: Cody Leonard of Sinton, Texas, started 13th and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Horner's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Modern Motorsports, Houston Specialty Products, Swift Springs, Winning Edge Carburetor, GW Performance, J&J Racing and Day Motorsports.
