What won the race: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., slipped by his brother David to lead lap 32 and went on to win Saturday’s caution-plagued Firecracker 4000 at Volusia Speedway Park, earning $4,000 for his second Firecracker 4000 victory in a row.
Key notes: Mark Whitener finished 1.117 seconds ahead of his brother David Whitener, who took the lead from Nevin Gainey on lap 10 and paced the middle stage of the race. … Gainey retired on lap 11. … Fifteen of the 26 starters completed all 40 laps. … The race took more than 59 minutes to complete. It was slowed by multiple cautions including a lengthy yellow on lap five and three cautions in the final eight laps. … The final caution set up a four-lap shootout to the checkers. … The Firecracker 4000 was originally set for July 5, but rained out. ...
