Greg Johnson celebrates his first-ever MARS Series victory.
What won the race: Greg Johnson of Bedford, Ind., soared to his first career Schaeffer’s MARS Racing Series victory in Friday evening's 30-lap feature at Thunder Valley Speedway. He took the $3,000 checkered flag ahead of Devin Gilpin and David Seibers, who clinched his first MARS points championship in the tour's 2019 season finale.
Key notes: Johnson came off the pole position to lead the A-main's entire distance. He turned back two late-race challenges from outside polesitter Gilpin in lapped traffic to join the MARS win list. ... Johnson became the ninth different winner in as many races this season. ... Two caution flags slowed the feature, on the original start for a three-car tangle and lap nine for debris on the track. ... Chapel Hill, Tenn.'s Seibers, a former Duck River Raceway Park champion, wrapped up his first-ever touring series title. ... The series made its first-ever visit to the Salem, Ind., oval as Super Late Models competed at Thunder Valley Raceway for the first time since 2005. … A $4,000 bonus is up for grabs to any driver who can sweep four events on Schaeffer’s-sponsored tours over Labor Day weekend. The MARS Racing Series, Fall Nationals Series and Iron-Man Series have joined forces to offer the bonus, as well as an additional $1,000 to the driver finishing highest in points for the four events contested in Indiana, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Winner's sponsors: Johnson’s Mike Weinle Motorsports Club 29 Race Car is powered by a Dargie Race Engine and sponsored by Dirt Track at Edgewater, Michael J’s Auto Sales, John Weber and Hoosier Tire of Indy.
