What won the race: Outside front row starter Jeremy Shaw of Millport, Ala., grabbed the lead on lap two and led the rest of the way to pick up a $5,000 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series victory Saturday at North Alabama Speedway as he drove a 60-lap triumph in the tour’s third annual King of Crates.

Quotable: “This is unbelievable,” said Shaw. “Jason Steele called me earlier this week to fill in for Chase Washington, who wasn’t feeling well, and I had been in retirement for a couple of years. They gave me the best handling race car I’ve ever been in, and I want to dedicate this win to Chase. This one’s for him. It’s been seven years to the day that I won another Durrence Layne $5,000-to-win race, and I guess I was thinking too much because the second-place car came up and hit me in the door. That gave me a wake-up call, so I stepped up the pace and I didn’t see them again.”

Key notes: Shaw drove the No. 38 normally piloted Chase Washington. He dedicated the victory to him. … Polesitter Dustin Harris of Flintville, Tenn., led the opening lap. … A crash on a lap-four restart collected a dozen cars, but most were able to continue. … Christian Hanger of Winchester, Tenn., was up to second before dropping back to fourth on a late restart. ... The third annual King of Crates kicked off Friday with Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., winning a 40-lap, $2,000-to-win main event. … Knowles won last year’s King of Crates finale. … The series leader has five wins and 11 top-five finishes this season. … Shaw is the ninth different winner in 14 series races this season. … The series still has weekend doubleheaders at Talladega (Ala.) Short Track and Florida’s Southern Raceway before closing out the season at Mississippi’s Magnolia Motor Speedway on Thanksgiving weekend.
