Billy Hicks pulled away in wrapping up his Fayetteville victory.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when Dennis "Rambo" Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., broke coming out of the fourth corner on lap 27, seventh-starting Billy Hicks of Mount Airy, N.C., led the rest of the way for a $4,000 payday. Hicks scored his first Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series victory since Aug. 4, 2007, and snapped Franklin's four-race series winning streak.
Key notes: Dustin Mitchell and Scott Shirey retired on the second lap. ... Zack Mitchell spun to collect G.R. Smith on lap 3. ... Johnny Pursley, Tim Allen, Anthony Sanders and Scott Neighbors were among drivers in another early pileup. ... Shaun Harrell slammed the wall on the 12th lap; no injuries were reported. ... The feature lineup was set straight from qualifying. ... Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., slowed with apparent engine trouble during hot laps. ... Hicks has 12 career Clash victories and sits fourth on the tour's all-time wins list. ... Franklin won the opening race of the tour's weekend doubleheader on Friday at Clary's Speedway in Brinkleyville, N.C. ... On the move: Hicks improved six positions en route to victory; six other drivers in the top 10 climbed at least eight positions in the feature.
Points chase: Runner-up Kennie Compton Jr. of Bland, Va., exits Fayetteville with 1136 points and a two-point edge over Franklin, who ended up 13th in the final rundown. Only three races remain.
