Bobby Pierce has an eye on victory lane while zipping around Eldora.
What won the race: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., jumped out to the lead on the opening lap and led all 25 circuits en route to become Eldora Speedway's youngest-ever Late Model winner.
Key notes: Pierce collected his second victory of the weekend and fifth on the 2014 season; he also triumphed Friday at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway for his 100th career victory. ... The 25-lap feature was slowed by several cautions. ... Michigan contender Jeep Van Wormer was knocked from contention in a crash after he tried to dive under Dona Marcoullier in turn three, triggering a multicar incident. ... Defending series champion Brandon Thirlby of Traverse City, Mich., finished eighth. ... Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, broke a driveshaft during qualifying which parlayed into rear-end issues that forced him to scratch for the evening. ... The event was postponed from last October and kicked off Eldora's 61st season. ... Besides Moran, among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Wayne Chinn, Brian Gray, Casey Noonan and Eric Spangler. ... Matt Mevert of Steeleville, Ill., matched Pierce, collecting $5,000 for his UMP modified victory.
On the move: Duane Chamberlain of Richmond, Ind., charged from 10th to claim runner-up honors, while 2013 track champion Matt Miller of Whitehouse, Ohio, advanced from 13th to round out the top-five finishers.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce drives a Bob Pierce Race with a Pro Power Racing Engine carrying sponsorship from Champion Spark Plugs, M&M Painting and Construction, Murphy Trucking, Petersen Aluminum and the Pierce Posse.
Points chase: With his victory, Pierce moves to the top of the ALMS standings.
