What won the race: David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., made the top groove work as he outdueled hometown driver and fellow second-row starter Rick Rickman in the second half of the race and pulled away to win the 50-lapper by two seconds at the finish. Breazeale's victory came exactly once year after his previous MSCCS triumph.
Key notes: Third-finishing Chris Smith of Brewton, Ala., led early from his pole position before Rick Rickman took over. He slapped the wall on lap 40 while running third but didn't miss a beat. ... Smith earned a $100 bonus courtesy of Jay Dickens Racing Engines of Aberdeen, Miss., as the overall fast qualifier. ... Breazeale's 24 MSCCS victories are second on the all-time list, trailing only Chris Wall of Holden, La., who has 43 series victories. ... The victory was Breazeale's first at Columbus in series competition. ... Jamie Elam drew a caution with about 15 laps remaining when he spun in turn two. ... Jeremy Broadus passed on a provisional starting spot because of a broken oil pump belt.
