Jimmy Owens (20) pressures Vic Hill (1) at Volunteer.
What won the race: Polesitter Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., overtook fellow front-row starter Vic Hill of Mosheim, Tenn., for the lead on the 22nd lap and pulled away from the field over the final 38 laps, winning by over a half-track margin.
Quotable: "We picked out a schedule that wouldn’t step on anybody this year," track owner Joe Loven stated. "I was kind of wanting to run a light schedule this season, but this has changed my whole perspective. To (heck) with them, and I’ll just bust up their (darn) races."
Key notes: After a slow start, Owens now has a pair of victories on the 2014 season, both coming in Bulls Gap; he also won a Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals event at Volunteer on March 14, earning $4,000 for his efforts. ... The 60-lap feature was slowed by three cautions. ... Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Tenn., slowed on the 34th lap to draw a caution while running fourth. ... Kyle Pierce of Statesville, N.C., and Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., tangled on the 10th circuit and brought out a caution. ... Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, Ga., drew a lap-8 caution. ... The feature lineup was set directly from time trials. ... Loven scheduled the race just eight days before the event to take vengeance against tracks and series that had run races that conflict with Volunteer's schedule.
Winner's sponsors: Owens' Mike Reece-owned Club 29 Race Car is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine with sponsorship from Edge Service, FK Rod Ends, Midwest Sheet Metal, Red Line Oil, Reece Monument Co. and Sunoco Race Fuels.
