What won the race: Polesitter Dillon Brown of Gaffney, S.C., cruised to win Thursday's 40-lap Independence Shootout at Cherokee Speedway, worth $5,000 on the Cagle Automotive Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model Series. Brown bagged his third Blue Ridge Outlaws victory of the season and his fourth overall feature win.
Key notes: Brown captured his series-best third BROLM win this season, adding to his May 17 Billy Cagle Memorial victory at Sumter (S.C.) Speedway and March 22 triumph at Lake View Motor Speedway in Nichols, S.C., combining for more than $9,000. ... Brown also nabbed his first career Steel Block Bandits victory on April 5 at Sumter, worth $5,000. ... Fourth-starting Bryan Mullis took second from Mark Greene on late-race restart, relegating Greene to third. ... Second-starting Adam Yarbrough slipped to fifth. ... Dan Breuer and Dale Timms each gained four spots, placing seventh and eighth. ... The race started around 12:30 a.m. local time and ended shortly after 1 a.m. ... Matt Long scratched after hot laps. ... Blue Ridge Outlaw competitors are scheduled to return to Cherokee on Aug. 16 for a $4,000-to-win show.
