What won the race: Taking advantage when Joseph Joiner hopped the turn-two cushion on lap 42, fifth-starting Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., paced the final nine circuits to capture Saturday's 50-lap Independence Shootout at Senoia Raceway. Owens stretched his lead in the final laps, winning by 2.988 seconds over Joiner for his fourth career Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory, second this season and second at Senoia.

Quotable: “It was a good night. It’s just a lot of tire games out there, everybody had a little different combination. We’d fire off once and it’d take off and run good and the next lap, it’d be a little skatey and all that stuff,” Owens said. “My whole (team), everybody’s did such a good job out here working in this heat. Two were taken to a local hospital, including one man with possible head injuries; both were treated and released, the track reported Sunday afternoon.
