Mike Marlar emerges in his Rockcastle Speedway debut.
What won the race: Overtaking polesitter and fellow front-row starter Justin Rattliff in turn three on the 29th lap, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led the rest of Saturday's sixth annual Tommy Lanham Memorial for an $8,000 victory on the Ultimate Heart of America Series. Marlar survived a scare with five laps remaining when a pair of slower cars spun in front of him, but restored to the lead. He took the checkers 0.978 of a second ahead of Garrett Smith with Rattliff third in the 40-lapper.
Quotable: "I was lucky to get through that (lap-35 scramble). I got a lot of damage, but it was good enough to run in the last couple laps with it," Marlar said. "The body's really bad and I could tell something's bent, a bunch of stuff. Sometimes that stuff happens. I looked for the hole, but the whole track was blocked. You just couldn't do nothing, so I tried to go up there and park and just stop for the wreck, but then I got knocked into it, it felt like. Part of it. Just thankful to get a win here."
Key notes: Mike Marlar notched his fifth series victory in his Rockcastle debut. ... Four cautions slowed the action, the first on the fourth lap when David Webb went around on the backstretch and retired. ... The second came out on the lap-four restart when Tyler Hayes spun, triggering a scramble involving a half-dozen drivers. ... A lap-12 caution appeared when Hayes slowed. ... The final caution appeared on lap 35 after Billy Green's car climbed partially atop series points leader Larry Martin Jr.'s car in turn two right in front of the leaders (Marlar spun but was restored to his No. 1 position). .... The feature began at 10:30 p.m. and concluded about 11 p.m. ... Thirteen starters completed 40 laps, with 18 running at the checkers.
On the move: Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., started 22nd and finished eighth.
