What won the race: Muscling by race-long leader Brandon Carpenter as he slipped in the turn-two cushion, second-starting Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., led the final 13 laps of Saturday's $5,000 Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series feature at Super Bee Speedway. Thrash, who said he lost power steering in the closing laps, beat Carpenter by 2.894 seconds for his first victory of the season and 26th career MSCCS triumph.
Quotable: “(Brandon Carpenter) was way better than me in these holes down here (in turns three and four). It just happened to play out my favor in the lapped traffic and he kinda messed up down there (in turn two) getting on the cushion, it was getting kinda treacherous,” Thrash said. “I just was trying to do all I could in the last five laps I started losing the power steering, so I just hung on.”
