Rusty Ballenger won his first Southern All Stars feature.
What won the race: Polesitter Rusty Ballenger of Seymour, Tenn., earned a dominant flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 50-lap Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series debut at Mountain View Raceway. Ballenger beat Heath Hindman to the line by 0.370 of a second for the $4,000 payday, his first career SAS victory and his second win this season at Mountain View.
Key notes: Ballenger's other Mountain View victory was April 5's local Limiteds show. ... Ballenger notched his first special event victory since Oct. 22, 2016, a Steelhead Nationals win at his home track, 411 Motor Speedway, worth $3,500. ... Fourth-starting Heath Hindman grabbed second from Dylan Thornton on the 21st lap and trailed Ballenger the rest of the way. ... Thornton, of Orcutt, Calif., pursued Ballenger for three laps (1, 19-20) before fading to fifth. ... Jordan Rodabaugh and Jason Manley each gained five spots to finish third and fourth. ... Kendall Franklin held second from laps 2-18 until he slipped to seventh and eventually retired on lap 34. He was credited with 21st. ... Kendall's father, Billy Franklin also retired under the lap-34 caution. ... Fourth-running David Payne pulled off on the 36th lap. ... The feature lasted 43 minutes, with 15 starters completing 50 laps.
