Jonathan Davenport commanded all 50 laps for this 20th win of the season.
What won the race: Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., overcame a rash of cautions and restarts, along with a lap-27 scrape with a spinning lapped car, for a flag-to-flag victory in Friday's 50-lap Peach Bowl at Senoia Raceway. Davenport beat Tim McCreadie to the line by 0.722 of a second for the $20,000 payday, his third FloRacing Night in America Series presented by Kubota victory of the season and the seventh of his career.
Quotable: “We got really lucky there. I saw the (lap-27) crash happening, but this place is so slick, like there was nowhere I could go,” Davenport said. “I thought (Tyler Millwood) was going to hold the brakes and I could get by (on) the top and then he closed that hole up so all I could do is try not to hit him right with the nose, but hit him with the side. Fortunately I didn’t get put to the back there.”
Key notes: Davenport nearly sustained right-front damage when Zack Mitchell and Tyler Millwood tangled in front of him on the 27th lap, the ensuing contact sent Millwood spinning, leaving Davenport nowhere to go and spinning to avoid contact. ... He notched his 20th overall feature win this season. ... Davenport's seventh career series victory moves him into a tie with Ricky Thornton Jr. for second on the fifth-year tour's all-time list. ... Tim McCreadie used a lap-27 restart to reclaim the runner-up spot from Devin Moran, but never truly challenged Davenport over the race's second half. ... The eighth-starting Moran settled for third after trailing Davenport from laps 16-26. ... The 50-lapper was slowed by seven cautions, the final one coming on lap 45 when seventh-running Bobby Pierce spun in turn four after contact with Kyle Bronson; Pierce retained seventh when officials deemed that his car's wheels never stopped turning as he even briefly shifted his car into reverse to keep moving. ... Cody Overton spun from ninth on lap 40 to draw the sixth slowdown. ... Chris Ferguson slowed from 15th on lap 37 for the fifth stoppage. ... Ninth-running Ricky Thornton Jr. retired under the lap-37 caution with heavy left-front damage. ... Seventh-running Brandon Sheppard had a left-rear flat on lap 16. ... Tyler Erb spun in turn four on the 12th lap after apparent contact from Ryan Gustin as they battled for fourth; Gustin was fourth apnd Erb 12th. ... Mark Whitener slowed with a flat left front for the race's opening caution on lap seven when four-wide racing led to contact between him and Hudson O'Neal as they battled for ninth. ... The Peach Bowl lasted 44 minutes with 21 starters completing 50 laps. ... The fifth annual Peach State Classic concludes with Saturday's 75-lap, $30,000-to-win FloRacing season finale.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., started 20th and finished seventh.
