Georgia-Florida Speedweeks

Georgia-Florida Speedweeks Almanac (Jan. 30)

January 30, 2026, 3:14 am
By Todd Turner
DirtonDirt managing editor

Friday's race: Fourth of 30 originally scheduled Super Late Model events from Jan. 22-March 7.

Venue: Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga.

Race details: The $10,000-to-win non-points opener for the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series, which splits its four-race South Georgia Showdown between Needmore and Swainsboro.

Weather forecast: A mix of clouds and sun in the morning followed by cloudy skies during the afternoon. Slight chance of a rain shower. High around 60F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. In the evening, cloudy with slight chance of rain shower. Low near 35F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Who's Hot: Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., a four-time career winner on the HTF circuit and a back-to-back Ice Bowl winner at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.

Who's Not: Josh Rice of Crittenden, Ky.., the new driver for JRR Motorsports who wasn’t a factor in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.

DirtonDirt prediction: After finishing third in last January’s South Georgia Showdown and sixth in last fall’s World of Outlaws event there, Middleburg, Fla.’s Mark Whitener cashes in at the 3/8-mile oval he considers one of his favorites, outrunning Josh Rice and Ryan Gustin. — Kyle McFadden

Around the Pits: Needmore, one of seven Georgia tracks to host Speedweeks events, first joined the fun last season with Hudson O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., grabbing a victory. … HTF’s South Georgia Showdown originally planned to award series drivers points based on their best finish of four nights, but facing cold weather, the series decided to make all the events non-points (series will award a paid provisional starting spot to the series regular with the best South Georgia Showdown performance at the first points race). … The series has a 40-degree minimum for competition, putting Saturday’s action in doubt with forecasts for colder temps.

Up next: Saturday’s $10,000-to-win HTF event at Needmore.

Next week: Feb. 2-3 $10,000-to-win HTF events at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway.

This Date in Dirt Late Model History: On Jan. 30, 2008, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., led all 50 laps for a Southern All Star victory at Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick, Ga.

Speedweeks trivia: Name three sets of brothers who own Speedweeks victories (Answer in Saturday's almanac. Jan. 24's answer: Matt Miller)
