Mark Whitener celebrates his second straight Ultimate Southeast victory.
What won the race: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., led all 30 laps from the pole in winning Friday's $3,000 Coastal Clash prelim at Golden Isles Speedway. Earning his second career Ultimate Southeast Series victory, Whitener was never challenged in taking the checkers 2.359 seconds ahead of Trey Mills for his 10th overall feature win of the season.
Key notes: Whitener's fourth Super Late Model victory this season marked his second straight on the Ultimate Southeast tour, adding to his Sept. 6 Casey Barrow Memorial triumph at Georgia's Screven Motor Speedway, worth $10,098. ... Whitener won his seventh Golden Isles special going back to 2015, earning more than $38,000 over that span. ... Third-starting Mills, fresh off his richest-career victory ($20,000) Sept. 20 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., took second on the opening lap and pursued Whitener the entire way but never truly challenged for the lead. ... Jackson Hise passed Michael Leach for second on the final lap. ... Points leader Brent Robinson rounded out the top five. ...
