What won the race: Fighting back to regain command one circuit after losing the lead to Ryan Gustin, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., paced the final eight laps to capture Wednesday’s Visit Delaware 51 at Georgetown Speedway. The 29-year-old star beat Gustin to the finish line by 0.949 of a second following a restart with three laps remaining to earn $20,000 for his milestone 50th career win on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

Quotable: “I thought Gustin had me there for a second (but) I knew that top side of turn three was there if I had to use it,” Pierce said. “I just had to cowboy up and kind of, you know, get a good corner, and luckily I went around there pretty good when Gustin was ahead of me and was able to slide him back in turn one.”

Key notes: Pierce’s night started in a scramble when his primary car was felled by mechanical trouble just before qualifying, forcing his team to hastily pull out their backup machine. He rebounded to set fast time, win his heat and emerge triumphant in his first-ever start at Georgetown. …. Just over five years since his first-ever WoO victory, Pierce became the fourth driver in series history to reach the 50-win mark. … Pierce was challenging Troutman for the lead down the backstretch on lap 21 when the Pennsylvania driver slid into turn three and made contact with the slower Jamie Lathroum. Troutman’s right-rear tire was cut and he pitted during the caution period, but he rallied to salvage a fifth-place finish after leading laps 16-21. … Gustin shot from third to first on a lap-42 restart, but after leading lap 43 he couldn’t repel Pierce’s slider and ceded the top spot back as lap 44 was scored. The Iowa driver fell short of a second straight WoO win but ran his podium-finish streak to four. … Nick Hoffman ran second for laps 22-42 before settling for a third-place finish that cost him the WoO points lead to Pierce. … After the race’s first 21 laps ran without interruption, seven caution flags plagued the remainder of the distance. … Polesitter Tristan Chamberlain slid out of the top five before slowing for a caution with right-rear suspension trouble on lap 21. … Dustin Sorensen spun to continue yellow conditions on the second lap-21 restart. … Donald Lingo Jr. spun in turn four on lap 24. … Mason Zeigler, who led laps 1-15, slowed for a caution on lap 26 while running seventh. … Daulton Wilson slowed for cautions on laps 42 and 48. … Georgetown hosted the WoO tour for the first time since 2018.
