Winner Tyler Erb is flanked by runner-up Drake Troutman (left) and third-finishing Hudson O'Neal (right).
What won the race: Leading all but the first lap, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas collected $30,000 Saturday at West Virginia Motor Speedway for his second World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory of the season. The second-starting Erb kept his pursuers in check for 59 laps in the Racefest Summer Championship in taking the checkers 1.184 seconds ahead of Drake Troutman with Hudson O'Neal in third.
Quotable: "I just didn't think anybody was gonna be able to circle the bottom and pass me, so I would kinda really protect the slider for 60 laps, it felt like," Erb said. "But it was a lot of fun, you know, Chad (Bauman) and Blade (Kearns), they did a great job with the racetrack. I was here when I was a 5/8(-mile) and I didn't like it. It wasn't that fun. And that's a lot of fun. That's elbows up, hard racing and it just really worked out in our favor."
Key notes: Erb's second victory in 16 days is his sixth on the WoO circuit and fourth on the Iron-Man circuit. ... He won $100,000 May 29 at Mansfield (Ohio) Speedway. ... Polesitter Brandon Sheppard led only the first lap and faded to finish 13th. ... Six cautions slowed the feature, the first on the ninth lap when Tyler Carpenter spun (Ryan Gustin pitted with right-front damage). ... On the 16th lap, Gustin's damaged car slowed in turns one and two and he headed to the infield for another pit stop. ... On the 23rd lap, Dustin Sorensen slowed with apparent left-front issues. ... Trey Mills slowed on the 34th lap (a second-running Hudson O'Neal clipped the Mills car in turn two). ... On the 52nd lap, Daulton Wilson rolled to a stop entering turn one. ... Tristan Chamberlain also stopped entering turn one on the 56th lap. ... The 38-minute feature concluded at 10:52 p.m. ... Bobby Pierce won Friday's $12,000-to-win Racefest prelim. ... The weekend was co-sanctioned by the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series.
On the move: Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Paul Construction, Curtis & Son Companies, Coles County Speedway, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, Behrent’s Performance, Midwest Sheet Metal, Race Ranch and KBC Graphix.
