Chad Simpson celebrates his second straight Winneshiek victory.
What won the race: Surging into the lead when Tad Pospisil hopped the cushion on the 19th lap, fifth-starting Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, paced the final 12 circuits of Saturday's King of the Bullring 30 at Winneshiek Raceway. Simpson beat fast qualifier Jason Hahne to the line by 1.017 seconds for the $3,000 payday, his second Malvern Bank East Series victory of the season and 10th of his career.
Quotable: "I just felt like I could charge the corner a little bit harder than the rest of those guys," Simpson said. "They were kinda wanting to whoa up and run around that bottom and they could run the top, but they were having to let up. Man, I just put this thing to the floor and she just rolled."
Key notes: Simpson was running fourth on the 13th lap before surging to the lead by lap 19. ... It's his second straight Malvern East victory at Winneshiek after leading all 40 laps to win last year's $4,000 series debut. ... Simpson secured his fifth overall feature victory of the season, all in his home state, adding to four wins during the month of May. ... Jason Hahne, Thursday's Malvern West winner at Hamilton County Speedway, led 10 laps before giving way to Tad Pospisil and eventually Simpson. ... Hahne regained the runner-up spot from Pospisil on the 20th lap. ... Tenth-starting Jesse Glenz and Blair Nothdurft slipped by Pospisil on a lap-28 restart. ... The fourth-starting Pospisil led laps 11-18. ... Jake Neal, winner of Friday's $4,500 DeFrance Memorial at Marshalltown (Iowa) Speedway, improved two positions to place ninth. ... The race was slowed by two cautions; the first eliminating Lance Matthees and Darrel DeFrance on lap 13. ... Polesitter Fred Remley faded to 11th before his race ended in a lap-28 stoppage along with Harrison Horn, who made his Late Model debut. ... The 30-lapper lasted 11 minutes with 12 starters completing the distance.
