What won the race: Overtaking race-long pacesetter Randall Beckwith with a third-to-first move on the 25th lap, third-starting Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, Miss., led the rest of Saturday's 40-lap Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series return to Greenville Speedway. Palasini stretched his lead to 2.947 seconds over Beckwith at the checkers for a $3,000 paycheck, his second MSCCS victory of the season and 11th of his career.
Key notes: Palasini notched his fourth career MSCCS victory at Greenville, adding to series wins there in 2019, '21 and '24. ... It's his ninth career Greenville special dating back to 2018, combining for more than $37,000 over that span. ... Randall Beckwith, who previously won $10,000 in 604 Crate action there in 2022, led the opening 24 laps from the pole until the race's lone caution changed the complexion of the race. Palasini made his third-to-first move by Beckwith and points leader Bo Slay one lap after the lap-24 yellow and led the final 16 laps unchallenged for his second MSCCS victory of the season, adding to a July 17 triumph at Hattiesburg. ... Beckwith settled for second while seventh-starting Ashley Newman dropped Slay to fourth on lap 25 until Slay reclaimed third a few laps later. ... Kason Harper and Cooper Thrash retired under the lap-24 stoppage. ... Greenville's season opener lasted 15 minutes with six starters completing 40 laps. ... Tanner Kellick and James Moore scratched after failing to finish the heat race. ... Greenville is scheduled to host MSCCS competitors again for the Oct. 9-10 Gumbo Nationals featuring a $3,000-to-win prelim followed by a $10,000-to-win finale. ... Slay won the Crate Late Model feature. ... MSCCS was slated to go to Mitchell's Motorplex in Perkinston, Miss., on Aug. 8, but the track hasn't operated since April because of an insurance issue.
