A.J. Hicks in victory lane at Lake Cumberland Speedway.
What won the race: Sliding by Hayden Cardwell as he was mired in lapped traffic as they came to take the white flag, eighth-starting A.J. Hicks of Grayson, Ky., led the final two laps to steal Saturday's $10,000 Fall Brawl at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Hicks grabbed his first American All-Star Presented by PPM Series victory of the season as he further extended his points advantage.
Quotable: “I seen that lapped car in front of Hayden (Cardwell) and I kept watchin’ and I went to the outside and thought I messed up,” Hicks said. “Then the lapped car slid up a little bit and picked him, I was like ‘here’s my opportunity’ … I gassed it and it stuck and I got him.”
Key notes: Hicks notched his second overall victory of the season and his first since a 604 Crate triumph on July 12 at Beckley (W.Va.) Motor Speedway. ... Josh Dietz challenged Hayden Cardwell in the opening laps and actually led the 16th circuit before giving way to Cardwell on the ensuing lap; Dietz was overtaken by Hicks on the lap-35 restart and trailed the two leaders until Cardwell slipped up the track at the completion of lap 49. ... Dietz officially took second from Cardwell as they took the white flag and finished 1.669 seconds behind Hicks. ... Cardwell, of Knoxville, Tenn., led all but three of the 50-lap feature before the late-race bobble relegated him to third. ... Logan Walls improved seven positions and rounded out the top five. ... Dustin Linville peeled off the Ultimate Heart of America Series tour for a rare 604 Crate start. He was running mid-pack before a mechanical failure knocked him out on the second lap. ... The race was slowed by four cautions, with the final incident necessitating a 20-minute red flag after Ross White and Trevor Sise tangled on a lap-36 restart attempt; White appeared to make contact with Sise's left-rear, sending both drivers spinning in turn one, with Sise backing into the wall and White's right-rear climbing Sise's nose and coming to rest on his hood. It took track officials more than 15 minutes to separate the two cars; Sise continued to finish 11th. ... The race lasted 51 minutes, with 14 starters completing 50 laps and 16 running at the finish.
On the move: Bailie Lowe of Fletcher, N.C., started 20th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Hicks drives a Longhorn by Wesley Page Chassis powered by a Hendren Racing Engine and sponsored by Shane Bailey Racing, KLM Electric, Knot Marine, Felty Farms, Thomas Concrete, Boggs Remodeling & Framing, Countryman Contracting, Daytona 1 by Coach, Burnie Racing Solutions, Hyperco, PPM Racing Products and Slicker Graphics.
Points chase: After Lake Cumberland: 1. A.J. Hicks (1,255); 2. Zach Sise (1,195); 3. Hayden Cardwell (1,175); 4. Bailie Lowe (1,142); 5. Trevor Sise (1,125).
