Winner Jonathan Davenport (49) keeps Brandon Overton (76) in check.
What won the race: Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., led all 30 laps unchallenged to win Wednesday's $7,000 Wieland Winter Nationals second round at Ocala Speedway. Davenport bagged his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of the season in finishing 2.066 seconds ahead of Drake Troutman for the 78th full-field victory of his career.
Quotable: “The pace is so slow on this end (in turns three and four), that you feel like you’re crawling around the bottom and you feel like you’re spinning your wheels, not really going around the top at all,” Davenport said. “We still got a little bit of work to do, but man we’ve been really consistent, (I'm) just proud of my guys.”
Key notes: Davenport grabbed his first series win since last fall's $50,000 Pittsburgher. ... The ninth-starting Drake Troutman took second on lap 18 by squeezing under Ricky Thornton Jr. entering turn one and was runner-up for his best career Lucas Oil finish. ... Second-starting Ricky Thornton Jr., debuting a new Longhorn, started second and finished third. ... Mark Whitener improved four positions and finished ninth. ... Brandon Sheppard slapped the wall exiting turn four and slowed for the race's first caution with a flat right-front on the fourth lap. He finished 16th. ... Brian Shirley got too high entering turn three and spun out of third on the sixth lap, drawing the race's second and final caution. ... The 30-lapper lasted 14 minutes, with 19 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Runner-up Drake Troutman of Hyndman, Pa., started ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Lance Landers Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Dynagro Seed, Mark Martin Automotive, Mega Plumbing & HVAC, Lucas Oil, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein and Midwest Sheet Metal.
