What won the race: Overtaking early leader Bryson Mitchell on a lap-14 restart, third-starting Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., led the remainder of Saturday's 40-lap Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series return to Pine Ridge Speedway. Thrash, the reigning MSCCS champ, beat Mitchell to the checkers by 0.881 of a second for his third straight series victory and 28th of his career.

Key notes: Thrash's other series wins came July 5 at Super Bee Speedway in Chatham, La. ($5,000) and July 19 at his hometown track Whynot Motorsports Park ($3,000). ... Bryson Mitchell, making his second special event start of the season, led the opening 13 laps from the pole before giving way to Thrash and settling for second. ... Seventh-starting Brandon Carpenter took third from Matt Cooper on the eighth lap and completed the podium finishers. ... Cooper faded to fifth by lap 11 and held that spot until retiring with a couple laps left. He was credited with 12th. ... The 40-lapper was slowed by one caution which setup Thrash's winning pass on the lap-14 restart and lasted 16 minutes, with 10 starters completing the distance.

On the move: Chase Williams of Star, Miss., started 17th and finished fifth.
