Mike Knight celebrates his second career September Sweep victory.
What won the race: Recently crowned track champion Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., led all 35 laps from the pole for a dominant victory in Friday's $5,000 Bob Rohrer Memorial to kickoff Eriez Speedway's September Sweep weekend. Knight beat World of Outlaws Series regular Tim McCreadie by 0.928 of a second for his second career September Sweep opener and second Eriez victory of the season.
Key notes: Knight added to his September Sweep triumph on Sept. 15, 2023, also worth $5,000. ... He also topped a local Super Late Model field on June 1 for his other Eriez feature win this season. ... Tim McCreadie pursued Knight for all 35 laps, but couldn't draw any closer than seven-tenths of a second in the final stages. ... Teenager Brock Pinkerous took third from Boom Briggs on the final lap, relegating Briggs to fourth. ... Recent Eriez winners Max Blair and Greg Oakes each gained five spots to finish sixth and seventh, respectively. … Seven-time Eriez winner this season Dave Hess Jr. appeared to be eliminated along with Jared Miley and Andy Boozel as they battled for fifth, drawing the race’s lone caution on the sixth lap. They were credited with the last three spots in the final rundown. … The 35-lap main event lasted 13 minutes with 10 starters completing the distance and ended just before midnight local time. … Another $5,000-to-win feature is scheduled as part of Saturday’s September Sweep finale.
