Tad Pospisil (04) powers by Jacob Hobscheidt (01) for the $3,000 victory.
What won the race: Banging doors with polesitter Jacob Hobscheidt on the first lap, fourth-starting Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., took control on lap two and never looked back en route to winning Friday's 25-lap Malvern Bank West Series weekend opener at Lakeside Speedway. Pospisil led the final 24 laps and beat Andrew Kosiski by 3.157 for the $3,000 payday, his 43rd career West Series triumph.
Quotable: “I love this place. I’m super thankful that Joe (Kosiski) put this on for us tonight, so big shoutout to him,” Pospisil said, before later adding, “Sorry for (contact with) Jake (Hobscheidt), I was beside him going into (turns) three and four and he just kinda squeezed me down into the tires. When the track’s (wet) like this you gotta make a move when you can and that’s what we did because it would’ve been tough to get around him.”
Key notes: Pospisil's second straight Malvern West victory at Lakeside was the fourth of his career, adding to a sweep of both 2021 events, each worth $3,000. ... It was his third series triumph and fourth overall win of the season. ... Hobscheidt led the opening lap from the pole before Pospisil muscled by, then trailed Pospisil until Andrew Kosiski slipped past on a lap-six restart. ... Bill Leighton Jr. outdueled Kyle Berck in a back-and-fourth battle for fourth, with Berck settling for fifth. ... Points leader Jesse Sobbing finished seventh. ... The race was slowed by two incidents, most notably a 15-minute red flag for Jay Norton's rollover on lap six; Norton's car flipped over the wall and landed upside down in the grass outside turn three. He was OK. ... The first yellow came for a Charlie McKenna and Corey Zeitner tangle on the second lap as they battled for fourth; McKenna retired with heavy nose damage while Zeitner continued for a few more laps, then pulled off. ... The 25-lapper lasted 29 minutes with 12 starters completing the distance. ... Dylan Sillman scratched from the feature with an engine failure for the second consecutive weekend.
On the move: Aaron Marrant of Richmond, Mo., started 18th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Pospisil's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsored by Signor Trucking, One Source One Solution, Window World, TB & Company, Iron Horse CPAs & Advisors, Dietz Well & Pump Co., Tu Casa Mexican Restaurant, Bad Chad Motorsports and Malvern Bank.
