Dennis Erb Jr. takes the checkers at Humboldt Speedway.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when Chase Junghans spun after leading 11 laps, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., led the rest of Friday's 40-lapper at Humboldt Speedway for his first World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series victory since June 2023. The fourth-starting Erb took the checkers 0.355 of a second ahead of Dustin Sorensen, who briefly slipped past Erb on the backstretch on lap 25 before Erb roared back ahead into turn three and held on the rest of the way.
Quotable: "We've been a little bit struggling here this year, a little bit up and down here," Erb said. "We got things rolling — kind of fell off a little bit the last couple of weeks — but back here tonight, had a good car early and just finished it off here tonight."
Key notes: Dennis Erb Jr.'s previous WoO victory on June 24, 2023, also came in Kansas at Park City's 81 Speedway, where the series heads Saturday. ... Erb, who notched his 15th career WoO victory, was largely forced to stay in the low groove in the second half of the race. ... Erb notched his seventh top-five finish of the season. ... Runner-up Dustin Sorensen, who nearly outdueled Erb in traffic, still seeks his first career WoO victory. ... Brian Shirley notched his seventh straight top-five finish. ... Third-starting Chase Junghans, WoO's previous winner at Humboldt in 2022, led the first 11 laps before spinning in turn two, drawing the race's lone caution. ... The 16-minute feature concluded at 11:11 p.m. ... Hunter Kohn scratched from the feature. ... In prelims, Billy Moyer, Ethan Dotson, Gordy Gundaker and Kayden Clatt were involved in a multicar melee at the start of the second heat race. Dotson was the only driver able to continue. ... Junghans lowered the track record in time trials ... Tyler Bruening, debuting a new AK Race Car, backed into the turn-three wall in time trials and scratched for the night. ... The program was delayed briefly when track lights went out before time trials.
On the move: Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by McBride Mack, VolMac Truck Sales and Service, Mark Tutor Racing, Keyser Manufacturing, Fox Racing Shox, Collins Signs, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels and Performance Rod & Custom.
