Tim McCreadie takes the $20,000 checkers at 81 Speedway.
What won the race: Making contact as he took the lead from Brian Shirley in turn four on the sixth lap, Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lapper at 81 Speedway for a $20,000 World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series victory. McCreadie, who started outside the front row, took the checkers 1.746 seconds ahead of Brian Shirley for his fifth WoO victory of the season.
Quotable: "I got a good start and you know I got into Brian there. I didn't try to slide him," McCreadie said. "He must have thought I was gonna slide him — I'm not much of a slider guy anyways — and he probably wasn't ready for it, he probably thought 'why is he still underneath me instead of over my nose,' but I don't normally do that stuff. So you know I hope he's not really upset about it."
Key notes: Tim McCreadie notched his 38th career WoO victory, tied for eighth all-time with another former series champ, Rick Eckert. ... Most of the top runners filtered down into the low groove for the last two-thirds of the race with passing at a premium (McCreadie ran behind the slower car of Tristan Chamberlain much of the race, putting a lap on him in the late stages). ... Runner-up Brian Shirley, with eight straight top-five finishes, led the first five laps but McCreadie rubbed past shortly after an early restart. ... Before the 50-lap feature, new track record-holder Bobby Pierce lost his pole starting spot because his crew illegally changed tire pressure on the starting grid. He rallied from the tail to finish 11th. ... Pierce's penalty gave Shirley the pole starting spot. ... Ethan Dotson presented his car on the grid but engine failure forced him to the pits before taking the green. ... A single caution slowed the action when Matthew Larson retired on the sixth lap. ... The 28-minute feature concluded at 10:07 p.m. ... The event honored Ed Gressel, one of the most successful team owners and supporters of the United States Modified Touring Series and the man who gave WoO regular Ryan Gustin his start in Late Model racing. ... Gustin won the night's modified feature.
On the move: Tanner English of Benton, Ky., started 13th and finished fourth.
