Max Blair celebrates a $10,000 RUSH Crate victory at PPMS.
What won the race: Speeding back by Carson Ferguson and taking control for good just prior to halfway, pole-starting Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., led the rest of Saturday's 40-lap Bill Hendren Memorial at Pittsburgh Pennyslvania Motor Speedway. Blair, who finished second in the night's Lucas Oil-sanctioned 37th annual Pittsburgher, bagged his third RUSH Crate Late Model Series victory of the season and 36th of his career.
Quotable: “I knew we were really good, but for some reason it won’t take off on them restarts, them double-file restarts were just killing me. Honestly, I thought I gave it away there,” Blair said before adding, “I thought it was all over, I didn’t think I was ever gonna be able to take off with them (on the late-race restart). I didn’t get the best start, but I got just good enough of a start to keep him behind me into (turn) one and it all worked out.”
Key notes: Blair led twice for 27 laps (1-5, 19-40) for his 15th overall feature win of the 2025 season and his fourth 604 Crate triumph, adding to Sept. 20's local RUSH Crate victory at Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa. ... His other two RUSH series wins were May 10 at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., and May 11 at Eriez, each worth $4,000. ... Blair earned more than $30,000 on the night after a runner-up finish in the night's earlier Pittsburgher feature. ... Lucas Oil regular Carson Ferguson, winner of Friday's $4,000 PPMS opener, took advantage of a lap-six restart and led until Blair regained control on the 19th lap. ... Benjamin Easler slipped by Christian Schneider and Mason Zeigler in the closing laps to finish third, relegating Zeigler to fourth and Schneider in fifth. ... Sixth-finishing Kyle Hardy remained within striking distance of the top five for all 40 laps. ... Zack Carley overcame a lap-34 spin to finish 20th, two laps down to the race winner. ... Three other cautions slowed the action, including lap seven when Daryl Charlier slapped the turn-two wall; he continued to a 14th-place result. ... Garret Paugh spun on a lap-six restart attempt before continuing to finish 22nd. ... Jeremy Wonderling slowed down the backstretch for the initial lap-six stoppage. Wonderling also fought mechanical issues before taking the green flag and was unable to continue. ... The event honored Bill Hendren, the founder of Hendren Racing Engines which revolutionized and perfected the Crate engine. He died March 19, 2011. ... The race lasted 32 minutes with nine starters completing the distance. ... Logan Zarin led all 10 laps of the non-qualifiers' race.
On the move: Mike Reft of Bethel Park, Pa., started 17th and finished 10th.
