What won the race: Overtaking race-long leader Bobby Pierce with a turn-three slide job on the lap-23 restart, Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., captured Friday's Bayou Classic opener at Boothill Speedway for his first back-to-back World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series victories in 20 seasons. McCreadie earned $10,000 in taking the checkers 2.067 seconds ahead of Pierce, who led 22 laps but was double-slid by Cade Dillard and McCreadie on the restart with eight laps remaining.
Quotable: “I found a little (spot) working off three and four. I really didn’t expect Bobby (Pierce) to do what he was doing and when he did, I almost got him (in three and four), then I run into him down there (in turns one and two) and (nearly) spun him,” McCreadie said before later adding. “It just happened to be our night. I don’t know what happened on the last restart, it seemed like we took off then the whole field accordion’d. It is what it is, we’ll go home tonight and be happy and go again tomorrow.”
Key notes: McCreadie scored his sixth WoO victory of the season and 39th of his career. ... His only consecutive WoO victories came in July 2005 when he won three in a row, two at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway and then at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio. ... McCreadie's single-season career high in WoO victories is eight (also in 2005). ... After Pierce led the first 22 laps, the lap-23 restart was key. Dillard dove under Pierce in turn one to take command, and McCreadie drove under Pierce and Dillard down the backstretch for the lead in turns three and four. ... Pierce slid back ahead on the other end, but McCreadie's crossover took him back out front for a lead he'd never give up. ... In another key moment, McCreadie made contact with Pierce entering turn one with 12 laps remaining but appeared to briefly check up, allowing Pierce to gather his car back. ... Polesitter Cody Overton ran second the first 12 laps, slipped back to fifth, but came back to finish third and match his best WoO finish, surviving an infield foray in turn two on the last lap. ... Dillard started eighth, briefly nosed into the lead on the 23rd lap, then slipped back to finish sixth. ... Three cautions slowed the 30-lapper, the first for backstretch debris on the 13th lap. .... The second caution appeared on the 23rd lap for a slowing Ethan Dotson, who broke a right-rear wheel running 14th. ... Tanner English slowed from the top 10 with a flat left rear on the 25th lap. ... The Bayou Classic concludes Saturday with a $50,000-to-win finale. ... Former WoO champion Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., finished 13th in his reunion with team owner Ronnie Delk after his stint with Skyline Motorsports.
On the move: Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started 26th and finished 10th.
