Tony Jackson Jr. shows off his big check at Lucas Oil Speedway.
What won the race: Leading all but the first lap, Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., turned back a late challenge from Chris Simpson for a $10,000 Fall Nationals victory at Lucas Oil Speedway. Jackson, who led comfortably until a late-race caution, took the checkers 0.557 of a second ahead of Iowa invader Chris Simpson in the weekend finale for unsanctioned Super Late Models.
Quotable: "I've got like a love-hate relationship with this place. I either run really good or really bad," Jackson said, thanking his team, family and supporters. "I know Chris (Simpson) is one of the best racers you're gonna race with, so any time you got a restart with him behind you, you know that there's a chance he's gonna slide by you. So we just, stuck with the lane we've been running that got us to the lead and hoped for the best."
Key notes: Tony Jackson Jr. notched his fourth overall victory of the season. ... Jackson's victory was his first at Wheatland since Aug. 31, 2024, on the now-defunct Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association. ... Chris Simpson finished second for the second night in a row (Simpson in the late summer swept two races during the track's Ron Jenkins Memorial). ... Third-starting Mason Oberkramer led the first lap after getting under the front-row starters, but Jackson went around him on the second lap. ... Payton Looney retired on the 26th lap running fifth. ... Two cautions slowed the action, the first on the 10th lap for second-running Tyler Wolff's turn-four spin. ... The final caution appeared on the 48th lap for Brandon Conkwright's turn-four spin. ... In Friday's weekend opener, Daniel Hilsabeck of Earlham, Iowa, led all 30 laps and held off Simpson on a late-race restart to win Friday’s $5,000 opener for his first career Late Model victory. Hilsabeck missed Saturday's action to attend a cousin's wedding.
On the move: Gordy Gundaker of St. Charles, Mo., started 15th and finished fifth.
