Luke Morey in victory lane at Princeton Speedway.
What won the race: After leading the opening 38 laps unchallenged, polesitter Luke Morey of Zeeland, Mich., fought off Henry Hornsby III on a two-lap restart and nipped him by 0.095 of a second in a photo finish to win Friday's 40-lap Ultimate Southeast Series feature at Princeton Speedway. Morey, who led all but the 39th lap, collected $4,000 and his first on the Ultimate Southeast tour on a night when he lowered the track record.
Key notes: Morey earned his first career touring series victory, his second in a Late Model, adding to last Aug. 30's Country Roads prelim at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va., worth $3,000 in DIRTcar Supers. ... Morey enjoyed a 3.528-second advantage on lap 22 before Henry Hornsby III reduced his lead to 1.372 seconds with 10 laps to go, only for Morey to stretch it back to more than five seconds when the third and final yellow flag flew on the 39th lap. ... Hornsby took advantage of the lap-39 restart and kept Morey pinned on the low line, leading the white-flag lap by 0.122 of a second before Morey edged back ahead at the checkers. ... Hornsby was gunning for his fourth win this season at Princeton after capturing three 604 Crate victories there. ... Fifth-starting Jamison McBride moved forward on two earlier restarts and finished third. ... The lap-39 caution came when the lapped car of Patrick Solari slowed abruptly entering turn three, collecting fellow lapper David Yandle and fourth-running Zack Dohm; Dohm was given his spot back, though he lost fourth to Jason Riggs on the late restart and settled for fifth. ... Solari also spun in turn one for the first stoppage on lap three. ... Tenth-running Freddy Mooney slowed out of turn four on the 10th lap, leaving Larry Blankenship piling into the rear of his car and spinning; Blankenship attempted to continue, but quickly pulled off when his hood flew up and obstructed his view. ... The 40-lapper lasted 21 minutes with six starters completing the distance and nine running at the finish. ... Kennie Compton Jr. scratched after hot laps.
On the move: David Yandle of Monroe, N.C., started 11th and finished eighth.
Points chase: Before Princeton: 1. Jason Riggs (113); 2. Jadon Frame (97); 3. Dillon Tidmore (96); 4. David Yandle (83); 5. Rusty Schlenk (69).
