Tanner English heads to a heat victory before his main event triumph.
What won the race: Surviving a spinning competitor in front of him with 10 laps remaining, series points leader Tanner English of Benton, Ky., led all 30 laps from the pole Wednesday at Farmington Empire Speedway for his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season. English earned $5,000 in taking the checkers 1.062 seconds ahead of Sam Seawright as the tour returned to the quarter-mile oval for the first time in 35 years.
Quotable: "It's pretty, pretty cool to get this done finally. I feel like we should have had five or six (wins), but, that's how it goes," English said. "Man, super grateful to be here. I know nobody wants to hear this story, but, I started this deal from scratch with a lot of good people behind me. And I can't thank my family enough and just everybody ... In March, I didn't have nothing, so, pretty cool to be here."
Key notes: Making his Farmington debut, Tanner English notched his seventh career Summer Nationals victory and first since July 5, 2024, at one of his home tracks, Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway. ... English has 11 top-five finishes in 12 series starts. ... Runner-up Sam Seawright logged his third straight podium finish. ... Outside front-row starter and reigning champ Jason Feger faded to seventh. ... Two cautions slowed the 30-lapper, the first on the 21st lap when Brandon Carpenter spun in turn two right in front of English. ... On the restart, the rear end of Frank Heckenast Jr.'s car ended up perched on the inside turn-two wall after a scramble involving Mitch McGrath and Chevy Boyer. ... McGrath headed to the pits with his car's air cleaner taken off (a crew member stripped off his T-shirt to cover the carburetor). ... The removal of Heckenast's car required two wreckers and caused a significant delay. ... The 20-minute feature concluded at 10:36 p.m. ... In prelims, English lowered Tony Jackson Jr.'s April-set track record. ... It was the first Summer Nationals race at Farmington since July 16, 1991, when Kevin Weaver nabbed his first career series victory.
On the move: Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., started 10th and finished fifth.
