Billy Moyer en route to winning Friday's Ed Rinehart Memorial prelim.
What won the race: Hometown driver Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., led the final five laps and emerged victorious in Friday's $5,000 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series Ed Rinehart Memorial opener at Batesville Motor Speedway. Moyer outdueled R.C. Whitwell and beat him by 1.342 seconds after race-long pacesetter Cade Dillard shredded a right-rear tire on the 23rd lap, opening the door for them to battle for the victory.
Quotable: "Well I saw it before, while we were going around there under yellow, it looked like (Cade Dillard’s) right rear was maybe a little soft," Moyer said. "I could’ve thought that it was going down, that’s why on that restart, I went up there in the fluff and let (R.C. Whitwell) get by me like a dummy. (Dillard) was the class of the field, I was a little bit off of him. Anyway, bad deal for him, for sure, but we’ll take one, just like you said, any way we can get one."
Key notes: Moyer, the reigning Comp Cams champ, notched his 17th career series victory and first since last July 18 at Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, Okla. ... It was his second overall feature win of the season, adding to June 23's DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory at Benton (Mo.) Speedway. ... Moyer captured his sixth career Batesville special dating back to 2007, earning more than $17,000 over that span. ... Fast qualifier and polesitter Cade Dillard led the opening 22 laps before a shredded right-rear tire sent him pitside; he rallied to finish fourth. ... Dillard caught a flight to Batesville separate from his hauler so he could attend his daughter's softball tournament in Mississippi (former Late Model racer Brooks Strength piloted the plane). ... Last year's Rinehart Memorial winner Scott Crigler lost a left-rear tire on the frontstretch on lap 25, triggering the race's third caution. ... Kyle Beard overcame a heat-race flat, advancing through the consolation and passing 15 cars to finish fifth. ... The weekend honors Rinehart, the former Houston, Texas-area businessman and owner of Rinehart Trucking, a longtime sponsor of dirt racing teams, tracks and series who died on Sept. 21, 2024, at 80. ... Saturday features an identical 30-lap, $5,000-to-win program for Comp Cams Series competitors.
On the move: Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started 20th and finished fifth.
