Scott Ward in victory lane at his hometown Casino Speedway.
What won the race: Fighting off early challenges from Kevin Eder and then cruising the rest of the nonstop feature, hometown standout Scott Ward led all 40 laps of the 13th annual Marilyn Olson Memorial at Casino Speedway to notch back-to-back victories on the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series for the first time since 2015. The second-starting Ward, the previous night's winner at Madison (Minn.) Speedway, took the checkers comfortably ahead of Tyler Peterson for a $3,000 payday and his eighth career series victory.
Quotable: "Yeah, my crew, they get hat's off. Son of a bitch, I'm tired," Ward said, sitting in the window of his car after the race. "Shane (Sabraski) must have poofed smoke down there and s---, for two laps, I couldn't see because I had oil all over me and I don't know what the hell it was. ... I've got five or six laps around this place, so I kind of know where to go."
Key notes: Scott Ward notched his 54th career victory at Casino Speedway (that's No. 2 on the list behind Chad Becker). ... Ward last won back-to-back races on the circuit in the first two events of 2015 at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D., and Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D. ... Third-finishing Dave Mass notched his fourth straight podium finish in taking the points lead from Shane Sabraski. ... Kevin Eder pressured leader Scott Ward from laps 5-10, briefly pulling ahead on the backstretch but never officially leading a lap. Eder finished fifth. ... Sabraski's car showed smoke with seven laps to go; he finished 14th and now trails Mass by nine markers in the points standings. ... Fast qualifier Lee Grosz tangled with Todd Frank on the opening lap of the first heat race and both retired from the prelim, then scratched from the feature lineup. ... The 13th annual Marilyn Olson Memorial concluded a four-race series weekend. Cole Searing on Thursday at KRA Speedway in Willmar, Minn., Shane Sabraski won Friday at Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo, Minn., and Scott Ward won Saturday at Madison (Minn.) Speedway. ... Searing underwent an emergency appendectomy early Saturday at Montevideo hospital and received hardship points for the remainder of the weekend. ... Late Model driver Zach Johnson's son Onyx won Casino's Midwest mod feature.
On the move: Hometown driver Trevor Anderson started 10th and finished sixth.
