What won the race: Driving underneath early leader Kyle Berck, pole-starting Andrew Kosiski of Omaha, Neb., controlled the final 23 circuits en route to winning Saturday's 25-lap fourth annual Gail & Karen Hampel Memorial at Adams County Speedway. Kosiski crossed the line 1.407 seconds ahead of Berck for the $3,000 payday, his first feature victory of the season and fourth career Malvern Bank West Series triumph.
Quotable: “This is huge tonight. (It's) my youngest daughter’s first race and my oldest daughter’s second birthday is today. We lost a pioneer in racing in Mike Daly (Sr.) last week and was humongous, people don’t understand what that means to us,” Kosiski said. “It’s the Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial, man. There’s not many memorials you want to win, cause you don’t know everybody. But that’s family right there man, I’m so happy to win this race.”
Key notes: Kosiski captured his first Malvern West Series victory since June 16, 2023, at Beatrice (Neb.) Speedway and his first win of any kind since June 20, 2024, an East Series triumph at Dubuque (Iowa) Speedway (both worth $3,000). ... Kyle Berck, the tour's winningest driver, led the opening two laps before giving way to Kosiski and holding off rookie Dallon Murty in the closing stages; Berck earned $150 as the highest finishing past Adams County track champ. ... The fifth-starting Murty, of Chelsea, Iowa, settled for third. ... Jesse Sobbing worked his way as high as third before Murty slid by him on the 19th lap, relegating Sobbing to fourth. ... East Series points leader Chad Simpson made a rare West Series start, improving three positions to finish ninth. ... The race was completed without incident and lasted nine minutes, with 15 starters completing 25 laps. ... Jon Binning scratched.
On the move: Corey Zeitner of Bellevue, Neb., started 10th and finished seventh.
