The winning checks Sunday afternoon at Boone County Raceway.
What won the race: In a race called after 14 laps because of an approaching storm, Dylan Schmer of Aurora, Neb., netted his career-richest payday in the second annual Ray Haase Memorial at Boone County Raceway. The pole-starting Schmer, who pocketed $8,502, led every lap of a race halted amid a turn-one pileup with weather bearing down. Anthony Roth and Zach Zeitner were awarded second and third with track champion Chase Osborne in fifth.
Key notes: Early in the event, approaching weather was threatening during the feature with winds picking up. ... When a lap-15 red flag appeared for a huge pileup in turn one that involved half the field, officials called the race despite not reaching the halfway point of the 35-lapper. ... Dylan Schmer won the richest IMCA-sanctioned event of the season. .... Anthony Roth finished second ahead of overall IMCA points leader Zach Zeitner, who was aiming for his third victory of the weekend (and 15th of the season) after winning Friday at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway and Saturday at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Neb. ... Besides the red flag, three cautions slowed the race, all just before halfway. ... On the 14th lap, eighth-running Logan Veloz, making his Boone County debut, spun in turn three while battling Greg Krohn. ... Another caution flew a lap later when C.J. Horn and Jordan Krug spun into the infield after a frontstretch scramble (Krug was piloting a new Infinity Race Car). ... A second lap-15 caution appeared when Ben Sukup, Curtis Glover and Matt Haase tangled between turns three and four before retaking the green. ... The next start was also a mess with the race-ending pileup.
On the move: Cory Dumpert of Newman Grove, Neb., started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Schmer's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Hort Farms and Leonard Graphics.
