Jamie Oliver went on to a convincing $4,000 victory Saturday at Sugar Creek.
What won the race: Jamie Oliver of Murphy, N.C., overcame a rash of early-race restarts to lead all 40 laps in winning Saturday's Jail Breaker Potato Chips Topless Outlaw Series feature at Sugar Creek Raceway. Oliver beat Zach Sise to the line by 1.973 seconds for the $4,000 payday and his second career Topless Outlaws victory, both coming at Sugar Creek.
Quotable: “We appreciate all our fans here, I don’t get to ever thank them enough. We didn’t let nobody come in here and tread on our waters either. No outsiders, right?” Oliver (rhetorically) asked. “There’s a slew of people man,” Oliver continued, “I can’t thank ‘em all and we appreciate you putting this deal on (series announcer) Brad (Byrd), we can’t wait until it comes to Tri-County.”
Key notes: It's Oliver's second series victory in the last eight months (Sept. 21, 2024). ... Oliver recently joined forces with Ray Cook as the co-promoter for Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C., where the Topless Outlaws have a $4,000-to-win event scheduled on July 26. ... Zach Sise trailed Oliver the entire distance, but never truly challenged for the top spot. ... Oliver Gentry grabbed third from David Payne on lap 13 rounded out the podium finishers. Payne slipped to fifth before getting back by John Ownbey on the final lap. ... Kyle Courtney rebounded to night after pitting with a flat tire under a lap-32 caution. The lap-32 slowdown was the sixth and final yellow flag when Rucker Orr slowed in turn four. ... Daniel Boles spun on a lap-12 restart attempt; Boles, the young son of Stacy Boles, continued for a handful more laps before retiring. ... The largest incident came on a lap-two restart stackup when Layne Clifton appeared to spin from eighth, collecting Drew Collins and Kelby Norwood among others. Collins retired, while Clifton continued to finish seventh; Norwood continued until slamming into Jack Franklin as they completed the 12th lap, ending their nights. ... Franklin spun on the second lap for the night's first caution. ... Houston Spurlock also spun on a lap-two restart attempt and retired. ... The feature lasted 32 minutes, with 12 starters completing 40 laps. ... Drew Deaver scratched.
On the move: Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., started 22nd and finished eighth.
