Ashton Winger celebrates a victory in Friday's Clash at the Mag opener.
What won the race: Driving by Jake O'Neil and taking the lead for the final time on the 11th lap, fourth-starting Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., overcame a near-spin under a lap-29 caution then held off Tyler Erb to win Friday's $5,000 Clash at the Mag opener at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Winger led all but four laps in beating Erb to the checkers by 0.713 of a second for his second career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory, both at Magnolia.
Quotable: “It was crazy the whole time, we fired off there and I think I was fifth leaving (turn) two on the first lap. I’m not sure what happened with (Dillard and Clanton) on the start, but I kinda just went where they weren’t and got the lead,” Winger said, later adding that "my car was just really good, I felt like I could be maneuverable. But the racetrack was just so much better down there on the bottom through them holes, it was like you said, riding a bull.”
