Tad Pospisil and his team in victory lane at Thayer County.
What won the race: Taking control from polesitter Charlie McKenna, fourth-starting Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., ran away with Friday’s 30-lap Malvern Bank West Series feature at Thayer County Speedway. Pospisil beat Dylan Thornton to the checkers by 5.781 seconds for the $3,000 payday, his second tour victory this season and 42nd of his career.
Quotable: “We were a little tight there for qualifying. The fact that we still timed in second to Jesse (Sobbing) and relatively close, so I wasn’t too worried. In the heat race, our car really came to life,” Pospisil said. “(We) didn’t have to change a whole lot for the feature, the car is really good right now. We hit on something and hopefully we can keep it going.”
Key notes: Pospsil tallied his third overall feature victory this season, adding to July 16's $6,000 Ben Nothdurft Memorial in Tri-State Series action at South Dakota's Huset's Speedway and Aug. 2's $3,000 West Series triumph at his hometown Off Road Speedway. ... Pospisil became the first repeat series winner at Thayer County after stealing the $3,000 victory from Charlie McKenna last year in the closing laps. ... McKenna, who led the opening two laps from the pole, finished fifth. ... Fifth-starting Dylan Thornton surged to second by lap 21 and cut Pospisil's lead by nearly three seconds over the final 10 laps. ... Dylan Sillman trailed Pospisil from laps 4-20 before slipping to fourth. ... Jake Neal, winner of 2021's inaugural West Series visit to Thayer County, improved nine spots to finish 14th. ... The nonstop feature lasted eight minutes with 12 starters completing 30 laps. ... Jay Norton scratched after hot laps.
On the move: Kyle Berck of Maquette, Neb., started seventh and finished third the evening before being inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame.
Winner's sponsors: Pospisil's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsored by Signor Trucking, One Source One Solution, Window World, TB & Company, Iron Horse CPAs & Advisors, Dietz Well & Pump Co., Tu Casa Mexican Restaurant, Bad Chad Motorsports and Malvern Bank.
