Rusty Schlenk celebrates the Iron-Man Series weekend sweep.
What won the race: Powering by early leader Caiden Black with a third-to-first move on a lap-10 restart, Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, led the rest of Saturday's 40-lap, 10th annual Don & Hans Gross Memorial at Wayne County Speedway. Schlenk sped to the $5,000 payday 2.562 seconds ahead of Colten Burdette for his fourth Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory this season and seventh of his career.
Quotable: “I knew it was gonna be a tire game, so I was just kinda biding my time and riding there for a while. I knew that (lap-10) restart, they kinda went to the bottom there in (turn) one and I knew that was my chance to take advantage of that momentum off the top,” Schlenk said. “After that I just put it in cruise control and tried to keep my tires underneath me. I watched the Hell Tour race here and it seemed like there was a lot of flat tires. I made the right tire choice and we figured out how to keep them underneath us.”
