Scott Ward celebrates his first career Tri-State Series victory.
What won the race: Second-starting Scott Ward of Watertown, S.D., led all 40 laps in securing his first career Repairable Vehicles.com Tri-State Late Model Series victory Saturday at his hometown Casino Speedway. Ward beat fellow Watertown resident Trevor Anderson by 1.086 seconds for the $3,000 payday, his third special event victory this season and second at Casino.
Key notes: Ward nabbed his fifth major event victory at Casino since June 8, 2014, earning more than $13,000 over that span. ... Sixth-starting Trevor Anderson inherited second place when polesitter Josh Skorczewski retired on lap 34 and cut Ward's lead by more than six tenths of a second in the final stages. ... Skorczewski, going for the Tri-State weekend sweep after topping Friday's $2,000 opener at Miller (S.D.) Central Speedway, trailed Ward for all but two of the race's opening 33 laps before retiring. He was credited with 16th. ... J.T. Wasmund advanced six positions to place fourth, taking the series points lead from Jeffrey Larson. ... Larson was the race's first retiree on the fifth lap. ... The 40-lapper lasted 28 minutes with 14 starters completing the distance.
