Dallon Murty picked up his second $5,000-plus victory of the weekend.
What won the race: Powering around Blair Nothdurft on lap nine, Dallon Murty of Chelsea, Iowa, led the rest of Saturday's 30-lap Malvern Bank West Series feature at Shelby County Speedway. The 20-year-old division rookie beat veterans Jesse Sobbing and Chad Simpson by more than three seconds for the $5,156 top prize, his second $5,000-plus victory in as many nights.
Quotable: “We got a hot rod. We tried some new stuff tonight, something a little different from last night and it didn’t skip a beat,” Murty said. “My crew is working so hard, I couldn’t do it without them. So many people helping us out and, man, I’m just having a blast right now.”
Key notes: Murty’s triumph came after he pocketed $5,086 in claiming Friday’s Malvern West opener at Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, S.D. He’s won three of the tour’s last five races and also owns two victories on the East circuit this season. ... Simpson briefly nosed into second on lap 27 before ceding the spot to Sobbing and settling for third. … Blair Nothdurft led the opening eight laps from the pole before slipping to sixth. ... Modified standout Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice, Neb., finished 11th aboard a Justin Zeitner-owned No. 30 entry. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, the first coming when Darrel DeFrance slowed and retired on lap 11. He was credited with 25th. ... Fourth-running Tim Ward slowed and trailed smoke for the second and final stoppage on lap 16. ... The 30-lapper lasted 13 minutes, with 22 starters completing the distance. … The Malvern West Series concludes its tripleheader weekend Sunday at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Neb.
