Chad Becker of Aberdeen, S.D., heads for victory in the WISSOTA 100.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead upon polesitter Josh Zimpel's lap-seven spin, third-starting Chad Becker of Aberdeen, S.D., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lap feature at I-94 EMR Speedway for a $10,000 victory, the third of his Late Model career at the WISSOTA 100. Winning on his 44th birthday, Becker wasn't seriously challenged in taking the checkers 0.837 of a second ahead of runner-up Cole Searing in the race that annually starts three-wide.
Quotable: "It was good. I kind of surprised myself up there in the top a couple of times through the dirt," Becker said. "They were preaching at me to just leave (the setup) alone and it took us a couple of nights to get this track figured out with this car, this Longhorn with Factory VS Penske Shocks was awesome."
Key notes: Chad Becker also won the WISSOTA 100 in 2017 (at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D.) and 2019 (at I-94). ... Becker won his 17th feature of the season. ... Four cautions slowed the 50-lapper, the first for leader Josh Zimpel's turn-two spin. ... Second-running Johnny Broking slowed with right-rear suspension damage after contact with the leading Becker entering turn four. ... On the 11th lap, Mike Stearns slowed. ... Cory Crapser ran into trouble in turn one on on the 15th lap. ... The 28-minute feature concluded at 10:23 p.m. with 17 starters completing 50 laps. ... The feature started three-wide. ... WISSOTA 100 week was marred by the death of track worker and WISSOTA board member Scott Engfer, who was struck by a street stock while attempting to cross the track on a four-wheeler during Wednesday's program. Drivers passed helmets through the grandstands to raise money for the family and OSHA officials introduced new guidelines for anyone crossing the track. ... Preliminary night winners were Zimpel, Becker and Broking (Kevin Eder won a Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series event Tuesday before scratching from Saturday's action).
On the move: Jayson Good of Watertown, S.D., started 15th and finished eighth.
