Ashton Winger heads to victory at Clarksville Speedway.
What won the race: Polesitter Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., led all 40 laps Thursday night at Clarksville Speedway for a $7,500 victory on the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series. Winger beat Jadon Frame to the line by 2.608 seconds for his first career Southern Thunder victory on the first-year series.
Quotable: "Man, I don't know, dodging wrecks there for a minute. This place is tight," Winger said. "My butt puckered one real good one time down there. So, my car's really fast. Just thanks to (team owner) Jeff Mathews for all he does for me."
Key notes: Winger notched his third overall Super Late Model feature of the season and second in four starts following a July 17 Schaeffer's Southern Nationals win at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway, his home track. ... Winger's $7,500 payday adds to $10,000 Clarksville triumphs (a Toilet Bowl prelim on March 29, 2024, and July 24, 2021, on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals). ... Sixth-starting Jadon Frame trailed Winger the final eight laps, but never truly challenged for the lead. ... Series points leader Dalton Cook survived an early scrape to finish fourth. ... A dozen drivers completed 40 laps. ... The event was the first Late Model special since the track announced it will close at the conclusion of the 2025 season with the City of Clarksville purchasing the 83-acre property for $7 million with plans to build the Hazelwood Recreation Complex.
On the move: Jim Gray of Lynchburg, Tenn., started 20th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Winger’s Jeff Mathews Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from RV Select Inc., CURS, Super K Express, Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Shocks, Angry Elephant Tattoo and Piercing, FK Rod Ends, A-Plus Collision Center, Hoosier Tire, Simpson Race Products, Collins Signs, DirtCarLift.com, VP Race Fuels, CSR Aluminum Fabrication, Boswell Oil and WrapTech.
