Jason Feger (25) battles Shannon Babb (18) at Spoon River.
What won the race: Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., slid past Shannon Babb for the lead on lap 30 and marched on unmolested to capture Sunday night’s 40-lap MARS Late Model Championship Series feature at Spoon River Speedway. The 47-year-old beat Ryan Unzicker to the finish line by 1.086 seconds to earn $5,000 for his sixth win of 2025 on the regional tour and the milestone 200th overall of his career.
Quotable: “Babb had a really good car,” Feger said. “I got him on that one restart and then he got me on the other restart, and (then) I was just trying to be patient. I started catching Ashton there and I felt pretty good before that yellow come out, and then … it’s just tough. Air definitely means a little bit here, too, and the track was a little different tonight I think with the sprint cars (racing). I mean, it was really good. I just didn't really know where to be, and it was really demanding out there.”
Key notes: The second-starting Feger fell to third place for laps 6-10 before overtaking Ashton Winger for second, then ran down Babb to assume command with a slider through turns one and two just before a caution flag flew on lap 30. … Feger registered his 33rd career MARS triumph and his 13th overall win of 2025. … Unzicker slipped by Babb for second on the lap-30 restart and held the position to the finish but wasn’t able to seriously challenge Feger. … Babb settled for third after leading laps 7-29. He outdueled Tony Jackson Jr. for the spot in the closing circuits. … Winger came off the pole to lead laps 1-6 but faded to seventh in the finishing order. … Four caution flags dotted the race. … Two slowdowns came on lap five, first for Daryn Klein off the pace on the backstretch and then Tucker Finch’s spin between turns one and two on the restart. … Russ Adams slowed on lap 24 and Jeff Herzog did the same on lap 30. ... Jay Sparks scratched.
On the move: Justin Duty of Molalla, Ore., started 13th and finished sixth.
