What won the race: Battling back past Ross Camponovo on a lap-18 restart, polesitter Neil Baggett of Columbus, Miss., held off his fellow front-row starter over the final 23 laps to win Sunday's Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series feature at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Baggett beat Camponovo by 0.648 of a second to win his first feature this season and 13th career MSCCS triumph.
Key notes: Baggett led twice for 26 laps (1-3, 18-40) for his first win of any kind since Aug. 10, 2024, an MSCCS stop at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., also worth $3,000. ... Second-starting Ross Camponovo cleared Baggett for the lead on the fourth lap and continued pacing the field until Baggett got back by him on the lap-18 restart. Camponovo pressured Baggett in the late going, but could never regain control. ... Reigning series champ Chad Thrash quickly advanced to third by lap four, but didn't have anything for the leaders and rounded out the podium ... Points leader Brandon Carpenter improved five positions to finish fourth. ... David Breazeale, winner of Saturday's $5,000 weekend opener at Jackson, settled for sixth. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, the first coming on lap 18 when Lynn Irwin retired from 15th. ... The final yellow flag flew on the 30th lap when eighth-running Ryan Wilson had an apparent issue before retiring. ... The 40-lapper lasted 18 minutes with nine starters completing the distance. ... Jeremy Broadus scratched.
On the move: Matthew Brocato of Muscle Shoals, Ala., started 15th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Baggett’s Prate Montgomery-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens engine and sponsored by Montgomery Farms, Jamie’s Body Shop, RTC Recovery, Doug’s Auto Sales, Shon’s Painting, King Motor Company and Advanced Logistics.
